Roof of Tropicana Field ripped to shreds by Hurricane Milton

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Powerful Hurricane Milton made landfall along Florida’s west coast Wednesday night as a strong Category 3 storm.

As Milton moved across the Tampa area, its strong winds did some significant damage to one of the region’s longtime public venues.

Tropicana Field, the home to Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays, had its roof ripped and torn off, exposing the inside of the ballpark.

The building was being used to stage first responders, with dozens upon dozens of cots lining the baseball outfield.

No injuries have been reported, but it’s not clear if anyone was inside when the roof was destroyed.
