MIAMI — A Miami woman was arrested over the weekend after one of her neighbors found her young daughter in the front yard of her home, alone and wearing only a diaper, authorities said.
The incident was reported at about 10 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Northwest 26th Street.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, the neighbor spotted the 4-year-old girl on her Ring surveillance video wandering around her front yard and climbing on top of her trash bins.
Police said the neighbor brought the child inside and fed and bathed her.
According to the report, the neighbor realized that the girl was non-verbal and a passerby informed her that the child lives about three houses down.
Police said the neighbor then knocked on the front door of the victim’s home, but no one responded so she called police.
Authorities said the victim’s mother, Lissette Perez, 34, approached officers about 15 minutes after they arrived and identified herself as the girl’s mother.
Detectives who responded to the home reported that they found that the window to Perez’s bedroom had been broken and there were glass pieces in the frame.
Police said the victim had cuts and bruises on her arm, leg and on the bottom of her feet.
According to the report, Perez provided detectives with a statement, however her statement was redacted from the publicly released report.
She was ultimately arrested on a charge of child neglect without great bodily harm.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident, however it’s unclear who currently has custody of the girl.
As of Monday afternoon, Perez was no longer appearing in the jail database.
