Zero Drownings Miami-Dade initiative shares progress

MIAMI – In honor of National Water Safety Month, the Zero Drownings Miami-Dade Initiative is sharing its progress nearly one year after its groundbreaking launch.

More than a dozen swimmers came out to the Marva Y. Bannerman Park Pool to show off what they’ve learned.

Since its inception in April of last year, the program has provided water safety and swimming lessons to more than 2,500 children across Miami-Dade County.

Parents say they’ve definitely seen a positive shift since last year.

Officials intend to open the program to 10,000 students this year before reaching their goal of 20,000 children next year.
