MIAMI — A 37-year-old man is facing a battery charge after Miami police said he struck a victim with a pole multiple times during an altercation.
Andtron Rakim Wrentz was taken into custody on Thursday in connection with a assault that occurred on June 1 near the 100 block of Southeast Fourth Street, Miami police said.
According to an arrest report, officers responded to the area after a fight involving several people reportedly escalated when one man struck another with a metal pipe, causing injuries to his face and torso.
Authorities said the suspects fled the scene with property belonging to the victims.
A short time later, one of the victims reported an attempted debit card transaction at a nearby gas station using his stolen card.
Authorities said the victims approached a Miami police officer outside the agency’s headquarters on Thursday and pointed out Wrentz, who is listed as homeless in his arrest report, as one of the individuals involved.
When officers attempted to make contact, they said Wrentz fled on a bicycle but was detained after a short pursuit near the West Flagler Street Bridge.
Police said both victims later confirmed that Wrentz was one of the men who had assaulted them and that additional suspects may be involved.
They did not say what Wrentz and the victim were arguing about before the alleged attack occurred.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
