LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Police say a Daytona Beach man left a trail of destruction during a South Florida crime spree.
Residents were left shocked by the damage left behind and the boldness of the accused crook.
Police say Imani Carey hit businesses at the Lauderhill Mall first; the 27-year-old took a cash box and some sneakers and quickly took off.
Minutes later, police said he made his way down the street to a Dollar General where he threw a rock at the door before the business was even open. When the rock did nothing, he tried again.
When he couldn’t get through the glass, police said Carey snuck into a truck that belonged to the store manager before crawling out with a lug wrench that he then used to try and break through the door.
After a minute, he gave up, leaving a big mess behind.
Lauderhill officers responded and caught up to Carey as he was about to throw a big rock at the City Trend store at the Lauderhill Mall.
Carey was arrested and detectives are currently looking into where he’s been and what he’s been up to.
Police said it’s unclear if he’s connected to other smash and grabs.
Carey refused to appear before a bond court judge and remains behind bars at the Broward County Jail.
