MIAMI – A South Florida man has been convicted of wire fraud after authorities say he booked more than 120 free flights by pretending to be a flight attendant, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
A federal jury on June 5 found Tiron Alexander, 35, guilty of wire fraud and entering a secure area of an airport under false pretenses, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.
Prosecutors said Alexander used an airline’s internal booking system — intended for working pilots and flight attendants — to fly for free dozens of times between 2018 and 2024.
According to court documents, Alexander boarded 34 of those flights without paying, falsely claiming he was a flight attendant employed by one of several airlines.
Prosecutors said he used fake badge numbers, bogus dates of hire, and listed at least seven different employers while applying through the airline’s portal.
Investigators said also he used roughly 30 different combinations of employee credentials and also posed as a flight attendant with three other carriers during the scheme.
Alexander is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 25 by U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Becerra.
