POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A train struck and badly damaged a vehicle in Pompano Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
It happened at approximately 3:50 p.m. in the area of West Atlantic Boulevard and North Dixie Highway.
5 p.m. report:
According to authorities, first responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a collision between a Brightline train and a vehicle.
The car wound up upside down as a result of the crash.
“The whole engine block came out of the car and struck the city commission building and broke a window,” said Pompano Beach Public Information Officer Sandra King.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue rushed the driver of the vehicle to Broward Health North with serious injuries, officials said.
No other injuries were reported.
Both east and westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard were shut down after the crash, but they have since reopened.
The circumstances surrounding what led up to the crash remain under investigation.
