Fort Lauderdale police: Suspect abandons vehicle with 2 kids inside after fleeing from officers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Police are searching for a driver who fled from officers and bailed out of their vehicle, leaving several juveniles behind.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly along Northeast 62nd Street late Tuesday morning and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The vehicle took off and was later found abandoned along the 1700 block of Northeast 56th Street, police said.

Inside the abandoned vehicle, officers said, were two preteen-aged children, who were not injured.

They have since been safely returned to their mother, according to authorities.

Officers are continuing to search for the driver.

Authorities have not said if there is any kind of relationship or connection between the driver and the children.
