The Tuesday afternoon shooting resulted in the death of 24-year-old Kristofer Lazaro Laboy, who was shot by Deputy Kelvin Cox.

Surveillance video shows the cars involved in the shooting driving through the Sunset Palm Villas Association complex, located just outside the Miami city limits at Northwest 85th Street Road and Fourth Court, before a deputy sprints toward the scene.

The sheriff’s office says the driver of a yellow Chevrolet Corvette did not stop after deputies attempted to pull him over.

Laboy’s family disputes that, saying their son didn’t know it was law enforcement following him.

Authorities said deputies had tried to pull over the Corvette that had dark tints, but Laboy did not stop and authorities were able to track the sports car to the complex.

Authorities said Laboy, who was armed, got out of the car and was fatally shot by Cox.

Cox is a 20-year veteran of MDSO. He was previously involved in two other fatal shootings, both of which were ruled justifiable.
