Photos obtained by Local 10 News from a resident in the area show the car flipped upside down in the canal. The pictures also show how the vehicle went right through a fence and then over an embankment before entering the water.

“There were two loud noises,” one witness said. “Seems like (she) bounced off of something and then flipped. That was a whole gate all across. (She took out) the railing and took out the gate. So (she) went airborne and landed in the canal.”

First responders said the woman was in cardiac arrest when she was pulled from the water. She was transported to Florida Medical Center in critical condition.

Lauderhill police confirmed that divers searched the water to check whether there were any passengers inside the vehicle. They later confirmed the woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police said there are conflicting accounts about whether this was a single vehicle crash or a hit-and-run.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Lauderhill Police Department at 954-497-4700.
