MEDLEY, Fla. – A police chase that began in Sweetwater and ended in a shooting in Medley on Friday morning left one person hospitalized and at least two people in custody, authorities said.
According to Sweetwater police, the incident began with an armed robbery in their jurisdiction.
Authorities said they pursued a white van north on 107th Avenue before the chase came to an end near 10800 South River Drive in Medley.
Sky 10 captured aerial footage of the pursuit and arrests as police vehicles surrounded the area.
During the pursuit, authorities said at least one Sweetwater officer discharged a firearm.
One person, who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound, was seen on video and later transported to a nearby hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The individual’s identity and condition have not yet been released.
Another person was seen wearing a mask before being taken into custody. Authorities said least two individuals were detained at the end of the pursuit.
The circumstances surrounding the armed robbery and the shooting remain under investigation.
