The two people who live at the apartment on Northwest 12th Avenue are wondering what’s next after they were forced out of their home by the fire.

Alberta Wiggins, who lives at the home, told Local 10’s Byron Tollefson that she doesn’t know what’s next for herself and her family.

“I have no idea. I don’t know. He (is) going to the hospital. I got the key but I don’t wanna go back in there,” she said.

Video shows Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crew members carrying out the dog from inside the smokey home and returning it into the arms of its owner.

Authorities say the man who owned the home was taken to Broward Health Medical Center after inhaling smoke and is expected to be OK.

Tollefson got a look inside the apartment after authorities said the fire started in the kitchen, where a pot had been left on the stove.

American Red Cross was at the scene helping Wiggins and her family with the next steps.
