MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Manuel Salgado Pena, 53, was arrested in connection with a stabbing that left a woman injured last month in northwest Miami-Dade, according to jail records obtained Friday by Local 10 News.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on July 24 at an apartment in the area of Northwest 172nd Street and 94th Court.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office’s said they responded to reports of a stabbing and arrived to find a woman, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
They said she was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for emergency medical treatment. Authorities later confirmed she is in stable condition.
Authorities said the victim’s adult daughter, who also lives at the apartment witnessed the stabbing.
According to the arrest report, both women had previously lived with Salgado Pena as a family, and the victim had been in a relationship with him for approximately three years.
Earlier that morning, the victim’s daughter realized she had forgotten to lock the front door and called her mother to remind her, according to the report.
During the call, she suddenly heard her mother scream, “It’s Manny, he’s got a knife,” the report stated.
Police said the victim’s daughter then raced back to the apartment, where she saw Salgado Pena dragging her mother out into the hallway with one hand over her neck and a knife in the other.
As the victim collapsed to the floor, police said Salgado Pena began walking toward her daughter while still armed.
Fearing for her life, they said she fled to a neighbor’s apartment to call for help.
From there, she witnessed Salgado Pena standing over her mother and stabbing her three more times in various parts of her body before fleeing the scene on foot, according to the report.
The victim later confirmed to investigators that Salgado Pena had entered the apartment without permission through the unlocked front door.
Deputies said he then dragged her from the bathroom and outside, where she fell to the ground and was repeatedly stabbed as she tried unsuccessfully to escape.
A be-on-the-lookout alert was issued for Salgado Pena, who remained at large for a week.
On Thursday, at approximately 9:50 p.m., investigators said he was located and taken into custody. He was transported to the Special Victims Bureau, where he invoked his Miranda rights and declined to give a statement.
Jail records show Salgado Pena is facing one count each of attempted felony murder causing injury, armed burglary with assault or battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As of Friday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be set.”
A motive for the stabbing remains unclear at this time.
