Mom to Mom: Brand new MammoVan rolls into South Florida

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — We have a Mom to Mom update on the MammoVan story we brought you earlier this summer.

Baptist Health has welcomed a new van to its fleet. It will service women in Miami-Dade County as well as Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

The MammoVan goes to physician’s offices, health fairs, bus depots and it has even been parked in parking lots with technicians and doctors offering free screenings to women.

The van is equipped with the latest technology, the GE Prostina 3D Mammography Unit.

If money or insurance is an issue, South Florida women are able to receive a mammogram at no cost to them.

“We know that there’s populations out there that won’t come here won’t access the care and maybe because of fear or intimidation. Maybe because they don’t have transportation or childcare issues but if we can identify those at-risk communities that are not coming here, we can go to them,” said Dr. Kathy Schilling, Medical Director of the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health and Wellness Institute at Boca Raton Hospital.
