PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — Slow-moving thunderstorms caused more flooding on Tuesday afternoon in some areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
In Miami, city crews installed stormwater pumps to collect and move rainwater to keep some streets from flooding.
Several streets flooded in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood. Andres Velez was among the residents in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood who experienced property damage on Monday afternoon.
“My car just got flooded,” Velez said. “The electricity is power on, so I just disconnected the battery to make sure it’s not going to create a short circuit, but it seems like it may already be too late - as soon as you open the doors, the alarm starts going.”
There were more than 6 inches of rain during the past 48 hours in the area of Miami International Airport, near Hialeah and Miami Springs.
There were also about 3.6 inches of rain in Miami Gardens and Opa-locka. The flood threat is expected to continue through Friday.
The rain chance in South Florida goes up again to 60% from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and it will go down to 50% at 6 p.m.
