MIAMI — Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith underwent successful surgery on Friday morning to repair a meniscal tear in his right knee, the team confirmed.
Team officials said the injury occurred while Highsmith, 28, was training in Baltimore.
They said the procedure, which lasted 35 minutes, was performed by the team’s physician, Dr. Harlan Selesnick, at the Doctors Hospital Surgery.
In 2024, Highsmith appeared in 74 games (42 starts) with Miami and averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 24.6 minutes while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.
He set single-season career highs in points, rebounds, steals, blocks, field goals made, three-point field goals made and free throws made.
Highsmith made headlines last year after authorities said he was driving a black 2021 Audi A5 that crashed into a 1999 Toyota 4Runner and struck a good Samaritan in Miami-Dade County on Feb. 6, 2024.
They said crash caused Alekxei Pino, then 21, to suffer “a partial amputation on his right leg, a compound fracture to his left leg, and a possible broken left arm.”
The Heat confirmed that Highsmith “will begin rehabilitation immediately” and is expected to miss 8-10 weeks.
