MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters on Friday at the Baptist Health Training Complex – two days before the Dolphins take the field for their Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Chargers at Hard Rock Stadium.

On the injury front, McDaniel announced that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip/left thumb) is expected to start, with Tagovailoa being a limited participant Wednesday before getting upgraded to a full participant Thursday.

McDaniel added that the hip injury Tagovailoa is dealing with is not the same hip that sidelined him for the final two games last season, but the same hip that Tagovailoa had surgically repaired in 2019 while playing at the University of Alabama – though a “completely different injury,” according to McDaniel.

Center Aaron Brewer has been limited this week due to a pectoral injury, but McDaniel said he is hoping Brewer will start.

The Dolphins can’t afford to lose any other starting offensive linemen – already without right guard James Daniels (pectoral) and right tackle Austin Jackson (toe).

If Brewer is unable to go, the team would turn to backup center Daniel Brunskill, signed as a free agent on July 22.

McDaniel ruled out linebacker Tyrel Dodson (concussion) and defensive back Elijah Campbell (quadriceps).

Already without wide receiver Tyreek Hill for the remainder of the 2025 season, McDaniel said wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., signed off the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad on Oct. 1, will be available on Sunday – giving Tagovailoa another target to work with.

Wilson Jr. did not practice last week, telling the media he was recovering from a knee clean up procedure, but he now feels ready to play.

The Dolphins and Chargers kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
