North Fort Myers in recovery mode after Hurricanes Milton, Helene

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. – North Fort Myers was one of the hardest-hit areas in Florida overnight, as a powerful storm surge and a tornado spawned by Hurricane Milton caused widespread destruction. Streets are now littered with debris, and homes in mobile home parks sustained significant damage.

Local 10′s Rosh Lowe was at the scene on Friday, walking through a mobile home park where home after home was torn apart by the tornado and residents were left in tears.

Dean, a North Fort Myers resident, recounted the terrifying moments when the tornado hit.

“A friend of mine texted me, saying there was a tornado over Del Toro. I didn’t know that,” he said. “Then I heard it and felt the pressure — the house was shaking.”

4 p.m. report:

The tornado touched down just before hitting Milton around 12:30 p.m., compounding the damage already inflicted by storm surge from Hurricane Helene.

Residents in the mobile home park were left stunned by the destruction, with homes flattened and personal belongings scattered across the streets.

The damage caused by Milton extended beyond just a few mobile homes. As Lowe continued walking through the neighborhood, he pointed out that nearly every home on the street had been impacted, highlighting the far-reaching effects of the storm.

North Fort Myers, already reeling from Hurricane Helene, now faces the challenge of recovering from both storm surge and tornado damage. Residents are left dealing with the aftermath of these back-to-back weather events.

The resilience of the community but stressed that the road to recovery will be long.
