Get ready for a steamy Sunday with feels like temperatures in the triple digits! It is going to feel every bit like summer out there today.
Expect for highs to soar to the 90s with Miami’s high temperature at 92°. I know that doesn’t seem that awful but don’t let that number fool you. With all this humidity hanging around, heat indices — what it actually feels like outside — we will be feeling like 103 degrees. The heat dome over head is responsible for the extreme heat and humidity.
If you have outdoor plans today, take it easy — stay hydrated, wear light clothing, find shade whenever you can, and don’t forget the sunscreen. It only takes minutes to burn in this kind of sun or to experience heat stroke.
So why so hot and dry? High pressure is still firmly in control over our area through the middle of next week, keeping us hotter and keeping most of the rain away. Rain chances stay lower than normal today, but we could see a couple of isolated showers try to pop up this afternoon to bring just a little relief. Still, most of us will stay dry until that high starts to break down early to mid-next week — that’s when we’ll see our better rain chances return.
We’re also keeping a close watch on the tropics. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring one area of interest in the Central Atlantic. Right now, development does not look favorable over the next week, and it is not a threat to Florida thanks to dry Saharan dust. We’ll keep watching it for you as always.
