Aug. 16: Hurricane Erin churns through the Atlantic

Dangerous Hurricane Erin is churning through the Atlantic north of the Leeward Islands and is expected to track well north of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and far to the east of SoFla and the U.S. east coast.

Rough surf and rip currents could arrive here by the middle of next week otherwise no impacts are expected here locally. The other big story for us this weekend is the continued mostly dry weather and heat indexes into the 100-105 degree range. Adjust your outdoor plans accordingly, stay hydrated, and get in the air conditioning as much as possible. Outside of a few scattered storms we’re dry through the day. A slight bump in the rain chances are seen for Sunday but nothing that will take us out of the drought is expected through the next 5-7 days.
