Aug. 28: Above normal rain, storm chances will prevail through upcoming holiday weekend

Keep the umbrellas handy as above normal rain and storm chances will prevail for SoFlo through the upcoming holiday weekend. A front just to our north separates drier air over North Florida from moist, tropical air here in South Florida. The front has stalled near Lake Okeechobee so our weather will remain on the wetter side of this front here locally. It’s bad timing for those with hopes of enjoying the first holiday weekend of the school year outdoors. Think positive though as there will be breaks in between the rain, but the main theme of our forecast for the next 3-5 days is wet with tropical downpours and scattered storms. Speaking of tropical, the tropics are quiet for now but we’re coming up on the peak of the season soon, so be prepared…It only takes one!
