Sept. 9: Flooding likely as scattered thunderstorms move in

South Florida is in a Level 2 out of 4 risk of flooding today. Slow moving scattered thunderstorms will rumble through this afternoon with pockets of 2-4” of rain. With the ground saturated from the heavy rains yesterday, it will not take much to cause additional flooding. The storms will gradually fizzle out as we approach sunset.

More afternoon storms are on the way everyday this week so the threat for more flooding will continue. By the weekend, a front that is stalled out over Florida could slip just to our south which would allow some drier air to move in. We will need a couple more days of consistency in our computer models to know for sure, but it’s becoming more likely we could see a slight drop in humidity along with the lower rain chances starting Saturday. More to come on that through this week.
