Death of Cuban rapper El Taiger confirmed

El Taiger

MIAMI — El Taiger’s family has confirmed the death of the beloved Cuban rapper.

According to a post on the artist’s Instagram, his death was confirmed on Thursday.

His manager held a news conference outside of Jackson Memorial Hospital on Wednesday to address rumors that the 37-year-old, whose real name is Jose Manuel Carvajal, was dead.

Local 10 News reported last week that Carvajal was found in the back of an SUV after having been shot in the head. It was parked near Jackson Memorial.

Now detectives with the Miami Police Department want to talk to 49-year-old Damian Valdez-Galloso, who has been named a person of interest in the case.

Police have not given much detail into the investigation just yet.

Miami police did say they are working with other law enforcement agencies on the case and are following up on forensic and digital evidence.

The rapper is popular among the Cuban community with 1 million Instagram followers.

Thursday night, a growing candlelight vigil was observed at the scene where El Taiger was found in the SUV.

Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of Valdez-Galloso is asked to call police immediately.
