The signs for the airline at the ticket counter at Fort Lauderdale International Airport were gone on Wednesday and there were no Silver Airways flights listed on the arrivals or departures board.

The airline advised travelers not to go to the airport for their Silver Airways flight, because all operations for the company were ceasing on Wednesday, June 11.

The company’s message did go on to say that credit card purchases should be refundable.

Silver Airways filed for Chapter 11 protection late last year. The shut down on Wednesday was due to a decision made by the company in charge of Silver’s assets, according to the post.

The company offered nonstop flights at airports out of South Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Key West and to Pensacola out of Tampa International Airport. Flights were also offered to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

The airline is headquartered in Hollywood. On its bankruptcy filing, it said they have more than a thousand creditors and owe anywhere from $100,000,000 to $500,000,000.

In a court hearing on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, it was revealed that a decision was made to stop flying around midnight. A judge blasted the airline for mismanagement as a new filing was made to restructure sale terms.

In the hearing, the judge also apologized to employees for not being able to spare them from the impact of the filings.
