Sheriff: Key West man faces felony after dumping 30+ mattresses, box springs on street
A Key West man is faced a felony charge Wednesday after authorities accused him of trashing a Stock Island street with more than two dozen illegally-dumped mattresses and box springs, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
300 migrants make landings at national park in Florida Keys
A U.S. national park comprising a cluster of uninhabited islands in the Florida Keys was closed Monday after 300 migrants made 10 landings there over the weekend, officials said. Dry Tortugas National Park, about 70 miles west of Key West, was closed so law enforcement and medical personnel could evaluate the migrants before moving them to Key West, the park tweeted. “The closure, which is expected to last several days, is necessary for the safety of visitors and staff because of the resources and space needed to attend to the migrants," park officials said in their statement.news.yahoo.com
‘SMART Ride’ cyclists to undertake Miami-Key West fundraising journey
Hosted by TSR Adventures Inc. and called the “SMART Ride,” or “Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride Two Thousand Twenty-Two,” the event is slated for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19. Entrants receive overnight housing, meals and the services of a medical team and a holistic and wellness tent throughout the event. On the second day, riders are to cycle some 65 miles southwest to Key West. Fantasy Fest 2022: A look into Key West’s famous Halloween weekend
Unforgettable was what this year’s Fantasy Fest in Key West was for college students and vacationers alike. Parade watchers lined Duval Street barricades as early as noon to save themselves a good seat for the parade. “I’m most excited to see the costumes made from body paint,” said Amanda Albanese, a sophomore marine affairs major. “I’m definitely incorporating body paint into next year’s Halloween costume.”Into the night, people of all ages weaved in and out of packed bars, some featuring live music and Key West’s famous frozen alcoholic drinks.
