MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning near the Haulover sandbar that happened Sunday night.
Family members have identified the victim as Orlando Trowers, 26, a father of three.
A relative told Local 10 News that Trowers had fallen off a boogie board when someone on a personal watercraft picked him up, but didn’t get close enough to the family boat for him to board easily.
Family members said he fell back into the water and struggled until they were able to get him onboard and perform CPR while first responders were on the way.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said ten of their units responded, including a fire boat and air rescue.
Two adults were rushed to a local hospital and another adult was treated and released on scene, authorities said.
