FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, “a national nonprofit dedicated to ending violence and enriching the lives of students,” announced Friday that they are offering a reward for information that leads to the arrests and convictions of those responsible for a triple shooting in Fort Lauderdale that injured three young adults earlier this summer.
According to police, the shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. on June 22 on the rooftop of a parking garage, located off East Las Olas Circle.
One of the victims, 19-year-old Richard Murray, is a current student at Florida Atlantic University with plans to transfer to Harvard University, his mother told Local 10 News.
“He has a major in business finance,” Celeste Thompson said. “He wants to open up a Fortune 500 (company).”
After the shooting, Murray was transported to Broward Health Medical Center with critical injuries and underwent multiple surgeries.
Thompson said he was shot multiple times in the parking garage.
She said he and a group of friends were out that night to send off their friend, who was about to deploy.
“They were at their cars and just dancing and celebrating hard because she’s leaving,” Thompson said.
Police said multiple people came up to the group and started shooting.
In addition to Murray, Janacia Davis, 19, and Aamori McGann, 18, were also injured.
“Our hearts go out to Richard Murray, Janacia Davis, Aamori McGann, and their families during this incredibly difficult time,” said Daniel Chapin, Founder and President of the Uvalde Foundation For Kids. “This senseless act of violence against young people, especially a college student with such a bright future, is unacceptable and deeply disturbing. We are committed to supporting efforts to bring those responsible to justice and help ensure that our youth can pursue their dreams without fear.”
The Uvalde Foundation For Kids is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting.
“We urge anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward,” the foundation’s volunteers patrol coordinator, James Earle, said. “Every tip can make a difference in helping law enforcement identify and apprehend the suspects, providing some measure of peace and accountability for the victims and their loved ones.”
Those with information are urged to call Detective Erik Kirtman at 954-547-0429. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Murray’s medical expenses.
