MIAMI — Right-hander Cal Quantrill turned in his best performance as a Marlin, infielder Otto Lopez delivered a game-winning two-run double in the eighth inning, and the Marlins ran their winning streak to four games with a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals Saturday afternoon at loanDepot Park.

Quantrill, signed to a one-year contract this past offseason, pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits, zero walks, and striking out three.

It marked the second time this season Quantrill worked a scoreless outing – with the first being Apr. 5 against the Atlanta Braves.

“I think he was really efficient today,” Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said.

The Marlins, who coughed up a 5-0 lead on Friday before their 10-inning win, led 1-0 through the top half of the eighth inning.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez belted a four-seam fastball from Marlins reliever Ronny Henriquez to straightaway center for a game-tying solo home run.

Marlins right-hander Janson Junk will take the mound in the series finale against Royals left-hander Kris Bubic, with first pitch scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET.
