The official White House Christmas Tree’s new ornaments were made this year in southern Miami-Dade County’s Cutler Bay neighborhood.
Aida and Joel Velez, the owners of the 3-D Print Shop, said they saw their 6-inch ornaments in First Lady Melania Trump’s video.
“It’s the bird and the flower of each state,” Aida Velez said about the ornaments in honor of Gold Star Families that decorate the 18-foot concolor fir from Sidney, Michigan, that decorates the Blue Room.
Joel Velez said he started 3-D printing as a hobby, as he struggled with depression about three years ago.
“The printer saved me,” Joel Velez said. “It saved me because it took me from depression in two months.”
The Velez later opened their 3-D Print Shop, and said the design hinted at an order from a government agency, but they had never imagined their pieces would become part of White House history.
“They feel my energy because I do this with love and passion -- not to make money,” Joel Velez said.
