Man accused of injuring 2 police officers remains hospitalized

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — A man who was accused of injuring two police officers in Hallandale Beach remained hospitalized on Tuesday.

Antonio Philmore crashed into a building on Sunday in the 400 block of Northwest Seventh Court, according to police.

Philmore attacked a police officer who responded to the crash and placed him in a chokehold until he started to lose consciousness, and grabbed the officer’s gun holster, according to the police report.

Despite the use of a Taser and multiple manual strikes to subdue him, Philmore bit another police officer while resisting arrest, according to the police officer’s arrest report.

The police officers -- identified as Officer Valchev and Officer Tufano -- were treated at the hospital. Valchef suffered a head injury that required staples and Tufano suffered a hand injury. Both were released.

Philmore faces charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
