MIAMI — A 19-year-old man recently confessed to stabbing a friend who had thrown a beer bottle at him in Miami, records show.
Moises Mendoza confessed to stabbing a friend on Sunday while inside a red Toyota Tundra that another friend was driving, according to a detective’s report.
Mendoza, of Allapattah, the victim, and the witness had gone out fishing with three other friends and cooked the fish, according to a detective’s arrest report.
“When the victim went to grab the defendant’s phone to put a song on, he accidentally spilled beer on the defendant’s phone,” a detective wrote, according to an arrest report.
The conflict continued while a witness was driving both home.
“The victim threw a beer bottle at [Mendoza’s] face. [Mendoza] stated, due to frustration, he began to stab the victim with a kitchen knife with a red handle,” a detective wrote, according to an arrest report.
After the stabbing in the truck, the victim flagged down a police officer shortly before 10:20 p.m. on Sunday at Northwest 30 Avenue and 11 Street.
Detectives reported finding blood in the Toyota Tundra’s front passenger seat and the back passenger’s floor, according to the arrest report.
Detectives arrested Mendoza shortly before 2:05 a.m. on Monday, and corrections booked him at about 7:50 a.m. on Monday, records show.
Mendoza appeared in bond court on Monday afternoon. He faced a charge of second-degree attempted murder and evidence tampering. A judge denied him bond for the attempted murder charge and ordered him to stay away from the victim.
