WASHINGTON — Representatives for 28 countries are set to attend the inaugural meeting of President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace on Thursday in Washington, D.C.
The board, which will meet at the U.S. Institute of Peace, is set to manage funding for reconstruction projects as part of Trump’s 20-point plan to transition Gaza out of the Israel-Hamas war.
“The Board of Peace will prove to be the most consequential International Body in History, and it is my honor to serve as its Chairman,” Trump said on Sunday, while announcing $5 billion in pledges.
As tunnel warfare continued in Gaza, Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced a commitment to train the new Gaza police force. Last week, Indonesia committed to 8,000 troops by the end of June.
Israeli media reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Cabinet Secretary, Yossi Fuchs, announced that Israel and the U.S. had agreed that Hamas was going to have a 60-day period to disarm.
In November, the United Nations Security Council welcomed the Board of Peace and authorized a temporary International Stabilization Force in Gaza.
