Dr. Thomas Wentzell pleaded no contest to a second-degree murder charge on Tuesday in Orange County court and was convicted and sentenced on Wednesday.

Windermere Police Department officers found Linda Wentzell dead at her home on Dec. 2. Detectives reported she had suffered “defensive wounds from an altercation.” She was 71.

After Wentzell, 72, called 911 on Dec. 5, Ocoee police officers detained him. Windermere detectives questioned and he confessed again, so they arrested him.

Detectives reported the physician had cuts, bruises, and abrasions on his face, neck, and arms that were “consistent with defensive wounds from an altercation.”

Florida records show Dr. Wentzell’s medical license to practice internal medicine in a suite at 11140 West Colonial Drive, in Ocoee, expired on Jan. 31. He was indicted on Feb. 25.
