Champion snake hunter wins $10k in 2025 Florida Python challenge

The 2025 Florida Python Challenge names its winners as the competition comes to a close.

Taylor Stanberry claimed the Ultimate Grand Prize for removing 60 pythons. She also takes home $10,000.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, this year, participants in the 10-day competition removed a record 294 invasive Burmese pythons.

Winners of the different categories in this year’s competition as follows:

• Longest python, Novice (15 feet, 11 inches) – Michael Marousky

• Longest python, Professional (9 feet, 8 inches) – Kennith Chamberland

• Longest python, Military (11 feet, 2 inches) – Jonathan Miller

• Most pythons, Novice (14) – Krista Hoekstra

• Most pythons, Professional (56) – Donna Kalil

• Most pythons, Military (5) – John Southworth

• Runner-up, most pythons, Novice (7) – Kymberly Clark

• Runner-up, most pythons, Professional (22) – Hannah Gray

• Runner-up, most pythons, Military (3) – Matthew Jamison

The challenge began on July 10 and ended on Sunday, July 20.

The challenge is held yearly in the Everglades to combat the growing number of invasive Burmese pythons in South Florida.

Both professional and novice participants helped remove Burmese pythons from the Everglades.

Everglades National Park was a new location added for the 2025 competition.

The challenge not only allows for public participation, but also contributes to Everglades restoration efforts, providing a valuable public service.
