LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Two men vanished while fishing on Friday off the coast of Florida’s Lee County, and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter found their empty boat on Saturday morning.
Attorneys Brandon Billmaier and his uncle Randall L. Spivey left fishing on Friday morning and didn’t return on Friday afternoon as planned, according to relatives.
During a search for Billmaier, 33, and Spivey, 57, the U.S. Coast Guard reported finding their empty boat early Saturday morning about 70 miles off Fort Myers.
The USCG crews were leading the search and asked boaters and aircraft pilots volunteering to monitor Channel 16 and report to the USCG Station St Petersburg at 1-866-881-1392.
