TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Friday the seizure of 2,183 vapes to protect minors and one arrest over the illegal sale of nitrous oxide.
Last year, Uthmeier launched the Nicotine Dispensing Device Directory, a list kept on Excel that includes over 640 products “attractive to minors,” after the Florida legislature passed HB 1007 in 2024.
“If you profit off addiction, deception, and dangerous substances, we will find you and shut you down,” Uthmeier said in a statement.
In Okaloosa County, deputies arrested Golam Farooque, the owner of Unique Vape and Cigar, who faced eight felony counts of illegal sale of nitrous oxide.
Florida law considers nitrous oxide chargers drug paraphernalia. Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden was also proud that his deputies seized 855 of the vapes.
There were 636 seized at Ocoee, in Orange County; 423 seized at Milton, in Santa Rosa County; and 263 at Clermont, in Lake County.
“This joint effort underscores the strength of cooperation between local and state entities,” Milton Police Chief Jennifer Frank said in a statement about the state’s vape task force.
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services personnel also reported removing 6,181 packages of product from eight stores in Ocoee and 2,054 packages from six stores in Clermont.
