According to Pembroke Pines police, the puppies -- about 200 of them -- and store employees were evacuated from the business and no one was injured.
Broward County Animal Care confirmed that they had employees arrive at the scene around 8 a.m. to help transport the puppies and place them in bins and enclosures outside the store.
“We don’t only impound pets,” said Emily Wood, Broward County Animal Care Director. “We do so much more for the community and care about all of Broward County’s pets which is why we rushed to their aid when asked.”
Animal Care officials confirmed that all puppies were in good health and were transported to Forever Love Puppies stores in Lauderdale Lakes, Aventura and Kendall.
The fire has since been extinguished, although access to the parking lot was temporarily closed to the public.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
