MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — One person is dead following a shooting and crash in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
According to authorities, the shooting was reported in the area of Northwest 79th Street and 27th Avenue.
Miami-Dade police said it appears that people inside two vehicles were shooting at each other while traveling on 27th Avenue.
Police said one vehicle crashed at the intersection of Northwest 79th Street and 27th Avenue.
The passenger had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“He was trying to get away, trying to make it to the hospital, but he wrecked (the car),” witness Keon Pierre said.
According to authorities, the female driver was not shot, but was transported to a hospital in stable condition after the crash.
“She was in the car saying, ‘Help, help me, get me out of here,’” a witness identified only as Jervona said. “My heart was like pumping fast and I was like, ‘I hope she is OK.’”
Police said the driver of the other car was shot and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition.
“Someone could be in their vehicle and they could get hit by a stray bullet,” Betty Nicholas, who lives nearby, said.
According to a witness, the incident involved a sex worker who did not get paid, and that’s why shots were fired.
Authorities said all parties involved are being uncooperative and it’s unclear why they were shooting at each other.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
