Mom seeks justice after 10-year-old hurt in crossfire in Pompano shooting: ‘It could be your child’

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A distraught April Lofton spoke to Local 10 News Friday morning, less than 24 hours after her 10-year-old son, Noah West, was wounded in a shooting in Pompano Beach.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, it happened at around 6:35 Thursday evening, near the 1700 block of Northwest Fourth Street.

“He doesn’t want the person to come after him,” Lofton said through tears.

Lofton said Noah was simply heading home after playing at Hunters Park when gunshots rang out.

“BSO came to my home and they knocked on the door and then they told me that my son had been shot,” she said.

Noah, fortunately, survived and was stable in the hospital as of Friday morning. Lofton described what happened.

“He went out to the park to play and he was out there and he said that this gentleman who had on a ski mask that was on (a) scooter started shooting at another vehicle and he kind of got caught in the crossfire,” she said. “He basically had a couple of buckshot wounds to the thigh and one in the buttock area.”

Lofton said Noah is the youngest of her five children.

“He’s super smart. So he was able to give (a) detailed description of what the person was, who the person was shooting at,” she said.

Lofton is now pleading with members of the public to come forward.

“It could be your child,” she said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
