Michael Wayne White was arrested on April 14 after being accused of firing four to five shots at two people traveling northbound on Northwest 42nd Avenue, striking the rear passenger-side tire of their vehicle, the Miami Police Department confirmed in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Monday.
Authorities said the victims were not injured during the shooting.
The report stated that the incident began just after 3:45 p.m. near the exit ramp from the Dolphin Expressway to Northwest 42nd Avenue.
The victims told police that White began honking his horn and attempted to bypass traffic by driving over the median, according to investigators.
They said as both vehicles continued north, White tried to cut in front of the victims but failed. Moments later, he pulled up alongside them and fired multiple rounds before speeding off in the direction of Miami International Airport, according to police.
Authorities said the victims described White’s car as a baby blue Toyota RAV4 with a license plate beginning in “79.” Officers said they later found the vehicle at Northwest 62nd Street and Northwest 12th Avenue and detained White.
At around 5:50 p.m., one of the victims identified White from a photographic lineup, police said.
A short time later, detectives interviewed him at Miami Shores Medical Center, where he had been taken for an unspecified reason.
After waiving his Miranda rights, detectives said White denied the allegations, saying he was on his way to a veterinarian to treat his dog and does not own a firearm due to his status as a convicted felon. However, they said he acknowledged being the sole driver of the vehicle that day.
Police said the Toyota RAV4 was later impounded for processing. They said White was arrested and held at the medical center for medical clearance before being taken to jail.
Jail records show he is facing two counts of second-degree attempted murder, along with one count each of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use or display of a firearm during the commission of a felony, shooting or throwing a deadly missile and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
As of Monday, he was being held at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
His booking photo wasn’t immediately available.
