It’s the end of an era for Microsoft Skype.
The video conferencing app officially shut down on Monday, marking the end of its long run.
In a post on Microsoft’s blog back in February, the company said Skype will be retired in and will focus on Microsoft Teams.
Skype users will be able to move to Microsoft Teams for free by logging in to Teams with their Skype account.
The company said Skype chats will appear on their Teams account and that the decision to retire the program reflects Microsoft’s strategy to prioritize Teams and streamline its main communications app against competitors.
Skype was first launched in 2003 as a way to make free calls worldwide.
It was purchased by eBay in 2005 and later purchased by Microsoft in 2011.
In the last 10 years, Skype has faced competition from similar products, including WhatsApp, Zoom, Apple Facetime and Cisco WebEx.
