POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – In a white shirt and gym shorts, 17-year-old Albert Yanez Quintana bonded out of the Paul Rein Detention Center in Pompano Beach Saturday afternoon.
The Pembroke Pines Charter School junior is charged as an adult with two counts of vehicular homicide and multiple counts of reckless driving in connection with a fatal Valentine’s Day crash.
Hugo and Patricia Cardona were out that night celebrating their 30th anniversary when Pembroke Pines police say Yanez Quintana, of Sunrise, crashed into their vehicle at Dykes Road and Northwest 12th Street, killing them.
Investigators say the teenager was driving a Dodge Charger so fast that it split the couple’s Ford Fusion into two.
The Cardonas were making a left turn at the time. Yanez Quintana is alleged to have been going twice the speed limit.
Police said Yanez Quintana was showing off his car and how fast it could go to his friends at the time of the wreck.
The Cardonas’ loved ones had asked a Broward judge Friday to keep Yanez Quintana locked up until trial, but he was given a $350,000 bond, which he posted.
He hung his head and didn’t speak to Local 10 News as he walked out of jail Saturday.
