FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A death investigation is underway after a body was found floating in Fort Lauderdale’s New River on Thursday afternoon.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to reports of a body in the water near the 400 block of Southeast Third Avenue.
With assistance from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, police said the body was recovered and the person was confirmed dead.
Sky 10 flew over the scene around just before 4 p.m., where crime scene tape could be seen along the water’s edge and officers remained stationed nearby.
Police said they’re investigating the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death.
No additional information about the victim was immediately released.
