Homicide detectives investigate after ‘human remains’ found in Miami-Dade canal

Sky 10 flies over the scene after a body was found floating in a canal in Miami-Dade.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies said they discovered “human remains” Tuesday afternoon after responding to reports of a body floating.

Deputies said the remains were located in a canal near the intersection of Northwest 25th Street and Northwest 72nd Avenue.

Authorities arrived at the scene around 12:15 p.m. and confirmed the discovery of a body in the water.

Video from Sky 10 showed crime scene tape, a road closure and a body covered with a tarp just after 1 p.m.

MDSO’s Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation, which officials say is “unclassified” at this time.

They said the gender, identity and cause or manner of death will be determined by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office.

No other details were immediately released.
