Jermaine Antonio Williams, of Miami Gardens, was arrested Tuesday and is facing one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the incident stemmed from a previous dispute between Williams and the victim that occurred near the intersection of Northwest 18th Avenue and Northwest 73rd Street.
The two men got into a fight, and after they were separated, deputies said Williams walked to his car — a dark-colored Kia sedan — and retrieved a knife from the trunk.
They say Williams then ran after the victim, who tripped and fell to the ground.
Williams reportedly stabbed the man several times in the left arm and leg while he was down and then fled the scene in the Kia, according to the report.
Deputies said they responded and immediately applied multiple tourniquets to the victim’s injuries before Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
On July 2, the victim positively identified Williams in a photo lineup, the report stated.
Nearly two weeks later, on Tuesday, deputies said they located Williams sitting in a black 2016 Kia Optima in the area of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 161st Street. He was taken into custody without incident.
They say Williams was read part of his Miranda rights but refused to speak or continue with the interview before he was taken into custody.
The motive for the stabbing and the nature of the relationship between Williams and the victim remain unclear at this time.
As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
