Miami-Dade deputy hospitalized after crash on US 1

Deputy injured after cruiser was struck by vehicle in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is ongoing after a crash on U.S. 1 that involved a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

It happened Monday at approximately 3:40 p.m. along the 18300 block of South Dixie Highway.

Sky 10 was over the scene and the MDSO vehicle appeared to have struck a pole and was left with significant front-end damage.

According to MDSO, a deputy was heading north on South Dixie Highway when a vehicle failed to yield and made a left turn, striking the deputy’s vehicle.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed the deputy to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The northbound lanes of South Dixie Highway were closed as first responders processed the scene.

Authorities have not said whether the driver will be facing any charges.
