HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30, and Hollywood Fire Rescue Chief Jeff Levy said he wants residents to be prepared.
While attending a Rotary Club event on hurricane season preparedness on Wednesday in Hollywood, Levy said residents forget that they need to store one gallon of water per person, per day, for up to 5 to 7 days.
Levy also said storing non-perishable foods for the same period is needed.
“You don’t want to be using candles,” Levy said about the potential for power outages. “Make sure you have flashlights.”
Levy said the goal is to be self-sufficient, so having charged batteries for cell phones and batteries for the supplies should also be part of the plan.
Buying these supplies ahead of time will help residents avoid the long lines before the storm and the potential shortages during the aftermath.
Residents should also be proactive about finding out their evacuation zone status.
