MIAMI — A Miami businessman is suing global pop star Chris Brown.
Kris Izquierdo is the founder of Breezy Swim, an event he launched in 2018, and Breezy Bowl, which is a runway fashion show he began producing in 2023.
“It’s something that is different than any other runway show and Miami Swim Week,” he said. “We have models from all over the world. Our trademark slogan is ‘Everybody is a Bikini Body.’ It’s something that’s really had an impact here in Miami.”
He has since filed a 17-page complaint against Brown, Live Nation, and others for trademark violations after Brown named his current tour Breezy Bowl XX.
“I was confused,” said Izquierdo. “I’m like, ‘should I be happy, excited, mad, angry?’”
Added attorney John Hoover, who is representing Izquierdo: “It’s just a little unfortunate that someone with so many resources wouldn’t have done their due diligence to know that.”
For years, Izquierdo has created and sold trademarked Breezy-branded merchandise.
Brown is now also selling Breezy-branded merch.
“It’s crazy to think an artist such as Chris Brown, who I grew up listening to, would adopt the name Breezy Bowl for his worldwide tour,” said Izquierdo. “It’s humbling and at the same time confusing. They create a lot of confusion for our customers and fan base.”
Hoover says in 2024, Izquierdo’s Breezy Bowl was held at LIV nightclub, which is now the very place Brown is hosting his post-concert party.
“There’s only so many words in the English language, but to pick the exact two, and choose to launch your show in the same city, even have your afterparty at the same venue where the last Breezy Bowl was held, there’s a lot of overlap there that doesn’t make sense,” said Hoover.
Izquierdo would like to see a fair resolution, and possibly a partnership between the company and Brown.
Hoover said he has asked for a jury trial.
