MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Stephany Sarmiento De Moya was in tears on Wednesday as she was trying to process her grandfather’s unexpected and cruel death in Miami-Dade County.

Detectives said the driver of a silver Toyota Tundra, a 2014–2017 model, struck and killed Enrique De Moya and kept on driving in North Miami Beach.

“It is so hard to think about how he was taken from us so suddenly, violently ... and the person didn’t even have the courage to stop,” she said. “I don’t know how you could do that to somebody and go on about your day.”

Sarmiento De Moya stood with Steven De Moya, who was heartbroken. Enrique De Moya, 69, his father, died on Saturday after attempting to cross Northwest 131 Street at Northwest Seventh Avenue.

“The person who hit him has no remorse, compassion for what he did, and simply left the scene,” the victim’s son said. “It’s very disheartening ... someone could have no regard for human life ... He was a very loving person, caring, loved his daughters, grandchild, full of energy, full of life.”

The two spoke for their grieving family. They want justice. There is a $5,000 reward for information resulting in the arrest and prosecution of a suspect.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
