MIAMI — A 29-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after Miami police say he dragged an officer with a three-wheel motorcycle while trying to flee a traffic stop in Little Haiti.

Jail records show Turiq Equan Harrell was arrested Wednesday and faces one count of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing or eluding police at high speed causing injury or death, illegal use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and resisting an officer with violence.

According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department’s Little Haiti Problem Solving Team, officers were conducting a violent crimes detail around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday near Northeast Second Avenue and Northeast 71st Street — an area authorities say has been “decimated by narcotics activity and retaliatory shootings.”

While there, police said they observed Harrell operating a black Can-Am three-wheel motorcycle with no visible tag.

As they attempted a traffic stop using lights and sirens, Harrell was heard saying, “Oh, s---!” before trying to reverse away from the officers, according to the report.

During the attempt to flee, police say Harrell dragged an officer with the motorcycle and pinned his right leg between the motorcycle and another vehicle.

He then accelerated forward but was ultimately stopped when the motorcycle shut off, leaving him stranded, the report stated. Officers then took him into custody at the scene.

A loaded black Taurus GX4 handgun was recovered from Harrell’s waistband during a search, according to the report.

The officer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with injuries that included road rash and a swollen ankle, detectives said.

“Throughout the course of his driving actions, the defendant demonstrated a willful and wanton disregard for human life and surrounding property,” police wrote in the report.

Authorities said Harrell was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and the motorcycle he was riding was towed from the scene.

As of Wednesday, he remains at TGK, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
